Former state representative Garth Everett died Saturday on his 69th birthday.
The Republican served the 84th District in Lycoming County from 2007 until 2020 when he opted not to run for reelection.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of former State Representative Garth Everett who served from 2007 to 2020,” the Republican Party of Pennsylvania tweeted from its account. “Those that knew Garth knew he was someone that you could count on. He was also a great lawmaker and even better friend.”
After graduating from Penn State in 1976, Everett served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force until 1997. He went to law school and received a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law in 2000.
Besides serving in the Legislature, Everett between 2011 and 2020 was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission and on the boards of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
“Garth Everett was a tremendous lawmaker and a good friend,” said House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster). “During his time in the Pennsylvania House it was clear Garth was committed to his family first and the people of Lycoming County in the passion he brought to his work. I know I speak for the members of the House that served with him when I say that his loss will be felt and he will be missed.”
He is survived by his wife, Susan, and two daughters.
