The 64-year-old Thompson, 64 appears to still be running for reelection in 2024 in the wake of the diagnosis, according to his campaign website. The 15th Congressional District covers much of north-central Pennsylvania, including Armstrong, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, Union, Venango and Warren counties.
Thompson was first elected to the U.S. House in 2008 and currently serves as chair of the House Agriculture Committee, as well as on the Committee on Education and the Workforce.
Reaction from his colleagues in Washington and around the Commonwealth was swift.
