Planning, zoning officer hopes to succeed Schemel for Franklin County seat
“Time for someone new with a fresh set of eyes to carry our community’s interests forward”
Chad Reichard, a planning and zoning officer for Washington Township, announced his candidacy for the 90th Legislative District seat presently held by Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) who has announced he is not seeking reelection.
A former district legislative director for Rep. John Joyce (R-13), he has also served as a staff member in the Pennsylvania Senate and as chair of the Washington Township Board of Supervisors.
A graduate of Waynesboro High School and a 2012 graduate of American University, he says he looks forward to sharing his unique, pragmatic vision with the residents of the district.
“First and foremost, I am committed to bringing my fiscal responsibility to Harrisburg to protect the hardworking families of the district,” he said in a press release. “Coming from a farming family, being employed since high school, and working with men and women from all backgrounds and economic circumstances, I appreciate the importance of keeping more money in taxpayers’ wallets. The residents of Franklin County know how to spend their hard-earned money better than Harrisburg.”
Reichard has been involved locally with the Waynesboro Community Human and Services Council, Waynesboro Beneficial Fund, Franklin County Council of Governments (chair), Franklin County Farm Bureau, Franklin County Republican Committee (past treasurer), and has served in various leadership roles with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
The 90th legislative district comprises parts of Franklin County, including the townships of Antrim, Montgomery, Peters, Quincy, Warren and Washington, as well as the boroughs of Greencastle, Mercersburg, Mont Alto and Waynesboro.
Schemel was first elected to the seat in 2014, defeating Democrat William Hornbarger. He has been reeelected without opposition in the general election since.
“I will champion the strong, conservative values of our community in Harrisburg, and make certain that the 90th district becomes an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” added Reichard.
