The first Republican has announced her candidacy for the 140th Legislative District seat in the Pennsylvania House vacated by the resignation of John Galloway.
Joan Graves, a former chair of the Falls Township Republican Committee, told LevittownNow.com that she is a candidate for the opening.
Galloway formally announced his resignation Thursday in a widely anticipated move, after he won an election for Magisterial District Judge in Falls Township in November. A special election for the seat has been declared for Tuesday, February 13.
A mother of three and grandmother of five, Graves is a Rider University graduate and is a retired clinical research project manager. She ran an unsuccessful campaign for Falls Township supervisor last month.
In a statement from her campaign, Graves said, “If elected (I) would like to see the various programs initiated by the outgoing representative to continue and would pick up that mantle. (I) would like to see additional services provided to veterans, young adults at risk, encourage new business ventures thus increasing the job base among other initiatives.”
Three Democrats have declared their candidacy to replace Galloway – former Galloway chief of staff Melanie Bidlingmaier, Levittown attorney and Pennsbury School Board member Jim Prokopiak and deputy chair and committee person for the Falls Township Democrats Donna Petrecco.
Galloway’s resignation opens up the 140th Legislative District seat that encompasses Falls Township, Morrisville Borough, Tullytown Borough, and a section of Middletown Township.
