Today, we take a look at the candidates for office in Lancaster County.
County Commissioner
The commissioners serve as the managers and administrators of county government, name citizens to boards, commissions and authorities, and award contracts.
Clerk of Court of Common Pleas
This office handles the criminal records for the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas. Some of the matters we deal with include: Expungements, Warrants, Name Changes, Summary Appeals, Traffic Ticket Appeals, and Criminal Background Searches.
Coroner
The medical examiner is responsible for conducting an independent investigation into any death under your jurisdiction in accordance with the law. Jurisdictional deaths are those that occur within Lancaster County and are sudden, unexpected, unattended, or violent or suspicious in nature. The primary purpose of this investigation is the determination and certification of the cause of death and the mode or form of death.
District Attorney
The Lancaster County Office of the District Attorney is dedicated to achieving justice and protecting the safety of our community. We thoroughly investigate, and prosecute aggressively, but fairly, criminal activity in Lancaster County. We zealously work to bring justice and preserve the rights of crime victims.
Prothonotary
The Office of Prothonotary is responsible for the recording and filing of legal papers for the civil side of the court system.
Register of Wills
The Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court Office provides a variety of services to the public, such as: Probate of decedent estates, Collection of inheritance taxes, Issuance of marriage licenses, Maintenance of records pertaining to adoptions, guardianship, and estates.
Sheriff
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office prides itself in being a professional, service oriented law enforcement agency with a wide array of duties. Deputies are sworn and commissioned law enforcement officers that have the authority to make arrests for statutory breaches of the peace as defined in Title 18 (PA Crimes Code), and issue citations for violations of Title 75 (PA Vehicle Code).
Treasurer
The Treasurer is the custodian of all county funds. Payments of county taxes and fees, state and federal grants, and other monies due the county are received and deposited by this office. The Treasurer is responsible for payment of all funds on proper authorization for obligations incurred by the county.

Magisterial District Court is the first level of judicial authority in Pennsylvania and is the court where most people experience the judicial system for the first time. Magisterial District Judges handle all traffic cases, minor criminal cases, and civil cases involving amounts up to $12,000. Magisterial District Judges also set bail and conduct preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to determine if the cases should be dismissed or transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for further proceedings.
