Is Pennsylvania Trump Country?

Five members of the Keystone State’s GOP congressional delegation say yes.

Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign announced Friday that he has secured the endorsements of Reps. Dan Meuser (R-09), Scott Perry (R-10), John Joyce (R-13), Guy Reschenthaler (R-14) and Mike Kelly (R-16).

They, along with former Rep. Fred Keller and Carla Sands, will serve as part of the campaign’s Pennsylvania Federal Leadership Team to “to build a coalition of support that will compete for and earn the support of Pennsylvania’s Delegates to the Republican National Convention and win Pennsylvania’s 19 Electoral Votes next November.”

According to FiveThirtyEight, Trump leads all Republican candidates with announced endorsements, indicating a strong level of GOP support for his attempted return to the White House.

POLITICO is reporting that Trump and his team have been pushing aggressively to win the backing of congressional Republicans: Earlier this week, he hosted several of the Pennsylvania members for dinner at his Bedminster, N.J. golf club. Brian Jack, Trump’s former White House political director, coordinated the endorsements with the help of TV ad maker John Brabender, a Pennsylvania political veteran.

The congressional quintet have had a close relationship with the former president for some time. Trump endorsed each of them during last year’s midterm elections, while Kelly was the first House member to announce his support for Trump in 2016.

The other Republicans in the Pennsylvania delegation – Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-01), Lloyd Smucker (R-11) and Glenn Thompson (R-15) – have not endorsed a candidate at this time.
