Political Director for Florida Senate Victory hired to win back majority
Tim Wagner, who most recently served as the Political Director for Florida Senate Victory, was named to head the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Campaign Committee (SDCC).
“We are building the team that is going to take Democrats into the majority next year and end the obstruction we are seeing in the State Senate right now,” said Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny). “Tim has the experience and energy we need to flip this chamber, and get the state working for working people again. We have a Governor that’s ready to sign the important bills that the House has sent us; the only thing standing between Pennsylvanians and progress is the Republican-controlled Senate. We’re excited for Tim to join us and look forward to working with him to re-elect our current members, and add a few more to our ranks.”
“Tim stood out in a wide field of applicants for this important role; a lot of folks know that this chamber is going to be one of the hardest fought battles in the country,” said PA SDCC Chair Vincent Hughes. “The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has named the PA Senate as a top body to flip next year, and we were looking for someone ready to bring that prediction to a reality, and Tim is that person. He knows what it’s like to work legislative races in a high profile state in a presidential year just like Pennsylvania will be next year.”
Wagner built and managed a $15 million paid media and political budget for the Florida Senate Victory caucus. He has also served as Political Director for the Environmental Defense Fund Action Votes PAC, Florida Deputy Director for Bloomberg 2020, as well as managed successful campaigns for Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and state senate and congressional seats across Florida, Virginia, and Indiana.
“I am honored to help lead the SDCC for the 2024 election cycle, and am excited to work with our candidates to take the majority and create a trifecta government in the Commonwealth,” said Wagner. “The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania deserves a legislature that will put people first before politics. Wagner’s challenge is a steep one, as Democrats look to protect 10 of their current 22 seats in the chamber, while needing to flip at least four seats to have a solid majority.
Of those 10 seats that Dems hold, two of them were won by less than four percentage points in 2020 – the 9th District won by John Kane (3.9%) and the 45th won by James Brewster (0.06%). The GOP’s closest 2020 win came in the 15th District as John DiSanto won by 3.26%
