Republican lead still within margin of error; Shapiro tops 50% again
After 34 previous surveys that saw him trailing, Republican Mehmet Oz finally has a public poll that shows him with a lead.
The GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate seat had a 2.7 percentage point edge on Democratic candidate John Fetterman in an InsiderAdvantage poll that was conducted the day following the highly-anticipated debate between the candidates.
In a survey of 750 likely voters, Oz received support from 47.5 percent of the respondents, compared to 44.8 percent for Fetterman. Libertarian candidate Erik Gerhardt received 2.8 percent support, while 3.6 percent indicated they were undecided or had no opinion. It is worth noting that the difference is within the 3.58 percent margin of error.
The shift from previous polls may have been affected by Tuesday’s debate. Respondents indicated by a 54-21 count that Oz “won” the debate. One in four surveyed had no opinion on the question.
The celebrity doctor held a commanding 19.1 percentage point advantage among males, while the lieutenant governor was favored by 13.9 points by women.
Oz posted better numbers with those 40-64 years of age by 14.1 points. Fetterman nearly equaled that advantage with those 65 and over with a 12.4-point edge. The difference in the race could come down to those under 40, as Oz held a 46.9-44.0 lead among that demographic.
According to PoliticsPA’s poll tracker, Fetterman still leads by 2.5 percentage points in an average of the five most recent polls.
