39-year-old will primary seven-term northwest PA Congressman
Republican Tim Kramer has filed a statement of organization for a political action committee as he intends to run for the 16th Congressional District seat.
The 39-year-old will challenge incumbent Mike Kelly for the GOP nomination.
Kramer is the coordinator of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through the United Way that provides free income tax preparation services to any person or family with an annual income under $50,000.
His website states that he “is running to be actual representation in Washington, D.C. for the district. He is running to represent the constituents of the district with an accurate idea of the struggles facing the 16th District.”
Kramer’s website says that he “supports the creation of good, life-sustaining jobs by cutting over-regulation on businesses and protect our jobs from outsourcing, allowing the American Dream to prosper.” He supports term limits, ending deficit spending and a federal income tax holiday on “overtime” wages.
A Slippery Rock native, he is a graduate of Butler County Community College.
Kelly was first elected to his northwestern PA seat in 2010. A member of the House Ways and Means Committee, he won reelection in 2022 with 59.4 percent of the vote over Dan Pastore.
Preston Nouri is the lone Democrat who has declared his candidacy for the seat.
