Toomey Taps New Press Secretary

Steven Kelly Toomey

Pat Toomey has a new press flak.

The Senator tapped his Central Pa. Regional Manager to also serve as his statewide Press Secretary. Kelly’s promotion means he will become involved with statewide media relations in addition to maintaining his role in constituent outreach.

“As a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, Steve has developed a deep appreciation of the Commonwealth and the people that call it home,” Toomey said of Kelly in a press release. “He is a dedicated public servant who will help me be a strong voice in Washington and a principled, effective champion in the U.S. Senate for the people of Pennsylvania.”

Toomey’s previous Press Secretary, Rebecca Neal, recently was named Communications Director for U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX).

Unlike Neal, Kelly will work in the state rather than Washington. Toomey Communications Director E.R. Anderson is based in D.C.

Kelly, a native of Snyder County, entered politics as an employee of the PA House Finance Committee after graduating from Shippensburg University. He has been working in Toomey’s Harrisburg office as Central PA Regional Manager since last September.

In addition to tapping a new Press Secretary, Toomey has promoted Frank Mazza, field representative in Columbia and Montour Counties, to be field representative for all of Central PA. Mazza, a Temple University graduate and resident of Luzerne County, has worked for Toomey since January 2011.
