Toomey ‘Wins’ AFP Scorecard, Followed by Kelly and Murphy

AFP Scorecard logoSen. Pat Toomey’s voting record won higher marks from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity than any other member of the Pa. delegation last session. Reps. Mike Kelly (R-Butler) and Tim Murphy (R-Allegheny) lead the House.

AFP is a limited government group affiliated with the tea party movement and lead – and largely funded by – conservative entrepreneurs David and Charles Koch.

Toomey earned a score of 94%, by far the highest in Pa.

Kelly and Murphy each earned 77%, followed by Rep. Tom Marino (R-Lycoming) at 70%. The lowest-performing Republican was Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh), with 55%.

Sen. Bob Casey received 11%. In the House, the lowest performing Dems were Reps. Chaka Fattah (D-Phila) and Allyson Schwartz (D-Montco) with 0% each. The highest-performing Democrat was Rep. Tim Holden (D-Schuylkill) at 32%.

The full scorecard is here.

For Republicans, the scorecard has a Senate bias. Since Democrats run that chamber, it’s easier for GOPers like Toomey to oppose their agenda wholesale and run up to score, so to speak.

House Republicans are more fractured, and several of the votes scored were those where the conservative position ran counter to the majority GOP one. Case in point: conservative darling and VP candidate Paul Ryan (R-WI) scored a mere 74%.

  1. Kudos to Toomey, Kelley, and Murphy. Keep up the good work. We need people like you to be able to pick up the pieces when this progressive experiment fails completely. I just hope there is enough left when they are through to re-build the nation.

  2. Toomey is an extreme, tea-party loving conservative. It’s a shame that the only candidate who had the brains to point that out, got eliminated in the 2010 Senate Primary.
