Trujillo Withdraws From Philadelphia Mayor’s Race

kentrujilloA surprise departure could shake up the contest to lead the City of Brotherly Love.

Former City Solicitor Ken Trujillo has officially withdrawn from the Philadelphia Mayoral race.

His full statement is as follows:

It is with great regret that I announce today I will no longer pursue the office of the Mayor of Philadelphia. My wife, daughter and I are greatly saddened by this decision, but there are family matters that require my full attention. I am announcing this now because I believe strongly that we must leave the door open for another candidate to enter this race. Philadelphia needs someone who has the skills and values to put Philadelphia first, and I very much hope voters will have such an option. I am grateful for the extraordinary support I’ve received, and it is my sincerest regret that I will not be able to pursue this campaign to the end.

This news was released just hours after Citified published a Q&A that outlined his progressive plans for City Hall.

This suggests the decision was rather abrupt. With his large personal wealth, Trujillo was seen as a possible wildcard in the race.

  1. If I had the Martin Luther King Day article comments and photo shot, I’d pack it in too.
