Trump Blasts Schmidt

President Donald Trump is attacking Philadelphia, once again, but the target this time is a Republican.

On Wednesday morning, Trump accused Philadelphia GOP Commissioner Al Schmidt of ignoring corruption in the city’s election, without proof, in a tweet

“A guy named Al Schmidt, a Philadelphia Commissioner and so-called Republican (RINO), is being used big time by the Fake News Media to explain how honest things were with respect to the Election in Philadelphia. He refuses to look at a mountain of corruption & dishonesty. We win!,” Trump tweeted at 9:03 A.M

Twitter included a tag at the bottom of Trump’s tweet noting that “This claim about election fraud is disputed.”

Schmidt responded to Trump’s tweet in a comment to the Philadelphia Inquirer

“We still have lots of work to do, and we can’t let anything distract us from getting it done,” Schmidt said to the Inquirer

Schmidt appeared on 60 Minutes this past weekend explaining how there hasn’t been widespread voter fraud and that his office has even received death threats. On Wednesday morning, shortly before Trump’s tweet, Schmidt appeared in an interview on CNN’s New Day to dispute the false attacks about widespread voter fraud in Philadelphia.

PoliticsPA reached out to Republicans who have long worked with Schmidt for a response. Sen. Pat Toomey’s office was direct.

“Senator Toomey has no doubts about Al Schmidt’s integrity,” his office wrote in a statement to PoliticsPA.

Pa. Republican Party Chairman Lawrence Tabas, a Philadelphia attorney, did not respond to a request to comment on Trump’s accusations of Schmidt.

The Philadelphia Republican Party and Chairwoman (and State Rep.) Martina White also did not return a request for comment.

The city party seems to have taken a side in the dispute, if its Twitter account is an accurate indicator. The Philly GOP “liked” Trump’s tweet about Schmidt this morning. The Philly GOP’s Twitter account bio also includes a link to an account called, “Rally The States.” “RallyTheStates.com” website invokes Article II Section I of the U.S. Constitution, that seemingly endorses the idea that state legislatures can override voters to choose state electors.

“They have the authority, and some would say the obligation, to disregard tainted, unreliable election returns and use their independent judgement to put in place a process to ensure that the electors are chosen by the will of the people expressed only through LEGAL votes,” written on RallyTheStates.com

The Philly GOP’s Twitter account has also tweeted #StopTheSteal on multiple occasions and accused Fox News of becoming “controlled opposition.”

  1. I just want to know if anyone in the Trump Campaign is going to pay for the expenses if needed should Deputy Commissioner Seth Bluestein or any member of his family are injured or worse by Pam Biondi’s Anti-Semetic dog whistle at a Campaign post election strategy meeting.

There are cops at Bluesteins house as of a few days ago…marked and unmarked cars people…

One wonders if regular rank and file Republicans know that Seth is a key and valued staff member under Al Schmidt…a Republican.

These are the guys Republicans should be PROUD of…

This is a disgrace. Someone please remind the Republican President Donald Trump of Ronald Reagan’s self phrased 11th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican”

Are we beyond that respectful view now…up to and including putting fellow Republicans at mortal risk over political strategy games???

    Seriously…

  2. I’m no fan of Al Schmidt.

He promoted the unconstitutional PA voter ID with a bullshit press conference and report about voting irregularities. (The actual details of the report showed that in person voter impersonation fraud didn’t exist, and there were clerical errors like a widow accidentally signing her husband’s spot in the poll book.)

Al “appeared” to be “rewarded” with a PPA patronage by Corbett.

That said, what Trump is doing is beyond dangerous. He’s putting a target on Al’s back and inciting violence.

The ball-less Republican officials in PA (and every other state) need to grow a pair and condemn Trump for this.

    1. David it is not necessary to “qualify” your support of Al Schmidt. It is clear that Trump is being a sore loser and Al Schmidt is in the right. That is all that needs to be said.

  3. This is what happens when the circus custodions stop feeding the Tiger red meat…

Turning on your own is truly “Bad Form”…loser leadership at its worst…

Al Schmidt is a damned fine man who cares greatly about Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of PA…and this country that his and our families honor and love and on this day…are willing to die for!!

    Al Schimdt is no RINO.

He along with a group of next generation Republicans changed the party culture in Philadelphia.

That shift is what got him elected as a City Commissioner.

Since then, City Republicans like Schimdt have been taken more seriously…in Philadephia and Harrisburg. And thanks to 60 minutes, nationally.

Someone needs to tell the President to grow a pair…concede the election, then focus on keeping Georgia in the R column, for his legacy… then go home to the comfort of his family to fight another day…and do it…Like a Man!!!
