Trump Taps Castor To Defend Him At Senate Impeachment Trial

Former President Donald Trump has selected former Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor as one of the two lawyers to defend him at his upcoming second impeachment trial.

“I consider it a privilege to represent the 45th President,” Castor said in a statement on Sunday evening.

“The strength of our Constitution is about to be tested like never before in our history,” Castor continued. “It is strong and resilient. A document written for the ages, and it will triumph over partisanship yet again, and always.”

Castor and David Schoen, an Alabama attorney, were selected after Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier announced that they were leaving Trump’s legal team, CNN reported.

Both Castor and Schoen view this impeachment as “unconstitutional,” according to a release from Trump’s office. The release also cited 45 Senators voting in agreement with Trump’s point of view, although both Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey (D) and Pat Toomey (R) voted against dismissing Trump’s impeachment trial last week.

Castor served as the District Attorney of Montgomery County from 2000-2008 and later went on to serve as Montgomery County Commissioner. Castor also served as Solicitor General and acting Attorney General of Pennsylvania after Attorney General Kathleen Kane resigned.

In 2004, he ran for Attorney General, but lost the GOP nomination to Tom Corbett. He also considered launching a bid to primary Corbett for governor, but did not run.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Castor was “criticized for declining to prosecute comedian Bill Cosby for sexual assault allegations in 2005, for which he claimed there were “insufficient, credible and admissible evidence.”

  1. Castor is human and enjoys the limelight. This Trump case puts him back in that spotlight. I think his time in the sun has come and gone but I could be wrong and this case gives Castor a second wind. It seems leaving DA for County Commissioner was a blunder in hindsight and this Trump case maneuver appears likely not to bring Castor back into the political forefront.

  2. It would be more the “honor” of a life time to get Trump off. And that Bill Cosby was one heck of a guy too.

  3. Bruce has a stellar record even when having tackled difficult challenges; he tried to help KK function until her demise and he honored his word when refusing to invoke a depo to prosecute Cosby.

  4. Oddly enough the Kane prosecution might be on an investigative track by another agency. Could make. The billy Crosby situation stink even more

  5. It would be more of an “honor” to put Trump away. But then Bill Cosby shows you are an ex-DA not capable of putting crooks away.
