Ups and Downs – June 17

Looney Tunes

We’ve stepped to the side over the past few weeks, but now we return with “Ups and Downs.”

Who has had a good week … and who may not have had the best of weeks.

Here are our Ups and Downs for the week ending June 17.

Doug Mastriano. The recent Suffolk University poll shows him within the margin of error in the first poll of the general election season. Something to keep an eye on.

Mehmet Oz. The doctor has been successful in consolidating the state GOP congressional delegation with the nine members endorsing his campaign for Senate.

Nick Miller. His opponent in the Democratic primary for the 14th Senate District has conceded, so it’s time to focus on the general. Miller, who held a 42-vote advantage, will square off against former Lehigh County commissioner Dean Browning.

Al Schmidt. The former Philadelphia city commissioner took center stage at the January 6th Select Committee hearing on Monday. He won the day by saying “not only was there no evidence of 8,000 dead voters in Pennsylvania, there was not evidence of eight.”

Brendan McPhillips. The Democratic strategist who ran Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign in Pennsylvania was selected as campaign manager for John Fetterman’s 2022 Senate run.

Chris Deluzio. The Democratic candidate in PA-17 was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” program for candidates that the DCCC considers “top-tier” and worthy of further investment.

Dan Hilferty. The Chair of Philadelphia Soccer 2026 helped bring the city the opportunity to host some matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mike Regan. The state senator from York was censured by the Cumberland County GOP for supporting other candidates than the group had endorsed. Regan was quoted as saying “it means probably about as much as a cloudy day.”

Dave Zimmerman. The representative from Lancaster County was stripped of his committee assignments by Republican leaders because they believe he supported a primary challenger to Ryan Aument.

  1. I for one am glad that Dean Browning is still running for office. I hope he doesn’t have any in-person events. Will be hard for him pose as fake attendees and supporters.

Also, PoliticsPA. Great job on the overall refurbishing of the site. Looks and works great. Keep going.

  2. The media who continue to present insurrectionist Mastriano as a legitimate candidate are complicit in helping fascism take over America. Wake up!

  3. If Dung Mastriano and carpetbagger Oz get UP ARROWS, then PA should be getting two DOWN ARROWS.
