Waite Decries Insulting Republican Attacks

WAYNE, Pa. –State House candidate Walt Waite today decried attacks from his opponent, Joe Hackett, and Harrisburg Republicans that have distorted Waite’s record and insulted the hardworking men and women who are the backbone of Pennsylvania’s economy.

In front of an audience of supporters, including veterans and blue-collar workers, Waite set the record straight about his decades of experience serving his country and his community.

“Joe Hackett and his backers have tried to minimize everything I have done and make it appear that I have not made any contributions to my community,” Waite said, referring to Republican mailers that have bombarded the district in recent weeks claiming that Waite, a Navy veteran, has “no experience.” “By saying the work that I have done is not good enough, Joe Hackett has not only insulted me, but he has also insulted the hardworking men and women of Delaware County, whose labor is crucial to their families and our local economy.”

While he was a senior at Ridley Township Senior High School, Waite enlisted in the Navy and served on active duty for two years aboard the USS AMERICA. During that time, he piloted an aircraft carrier and fought in the Six Day War and in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he worked as a security guard at the Franklin Mint and, later, as the property manager of a Main Line estate, overseeing up to seven employees and a $250,000 annual budget.

Despite Waite’s successful 40-year career and valiant military service, Hackett and his backers have continued to mislead Delaware County voters by distorting Waite’s record.

“Joe Hackett’s lies are an insult to our country’s veterans, and they’re an insult to any man or woman who has worked an honest job to support a family,” Waite said. “In these difficult times, when so many families are struggling to make ends meet, the last thing we need is a state representative who looks down on veterans and hardworking Americans and tells them their sacrifices and contributions to our community are not good enough.”

Pam Johnson, a security guard in Philadelphia, echoed Waite’s comments, saying she was insulted by Hackett’s demeaning attacks. “I am appalled by Joe Hackett’s insulting and baseless attacks against a hardworking man like Walt,” Johnson said. “It disappoints and angers me that Joe Hackett believes the work I do is anything less than an important service to our community.”

Veteran Bill Healy, a retired Marine and carpenter, also spoke out against Hackett’s misleading campaign tactics. “It’s bad enough that Joe Hackett is bad-mouthing Walt’s career, but for him to say that a man who has put his life on the line to serve our country has ‘no experience’ is outright offensive,” Healy said. “Anyone who respects the brave men and women who have served our country in the military should vote against Joe Hackett on November 2nd.”

Walt Waite is a Navy Veteran who came home from Vietnam and worked hard to provide for his family.  He is now running as the Democratic nominee for the Pennsylvania State House in District 161 so he can work to make a difference in the lives of his neighbors.  Walt lives in Ridley with his wife, Joan.
