Who Will Be Speaker of the PA House on February 28?

Now that the special elections to fill the three open Allegheny County seats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives have come and gone (if you’re reading this after 8 PM Tuesday), some questions linger.

In our last poll, 92 percent of respondents said that the House will “finally” agree on the rules after the special election. That appears to be prescient. Well done.

Here’s today’s question:

Who will be the Speaker of the House at the end of the month?

Will it remain Mark Rozzi (D-Berks) – the compromise selection from early January? Will we see Joanna McClinton (D-Philadelphia/Delaware) – the House Majority Leader – assume the role from Rozzi in a “speaker swap”?

Although Republicans are not expected to be victorious in any of the three races, could a GOP speaker emerge from a divided Democratic vote and retake the gavel?

What do you think?

We’d love to know.

Who Will Be Speaker of the PA House on February 28?

  • Joanna McClinton (68%)
  • Mark Rozzi (27%)

  1. Who are the 7% who think it will be a R? That is next level denial. McClinton. Rozzi was always designed to be a band aid. I just have to laugh. I had Dems tell me that, “of course, McClinton will be Speaker come January. The GOP wouldn’t dare……”. They still don’t understand what is going on. Amazing.

  2. Democrats should control who is Speaker, as Dems will be winning all 3 special elections. Majority rules. But McClinton, Rozzi or someone else that Dems choose is OK with me.
