Shannon Edwards, the forensic psychologist who former Congressman Tim Murphy had a affair with that led to his resignation, announced she is running for Congress in the new 18th district.
Edwards was the woman Murphy had an extra-marital affair with and reportedly had pressured to get an abortion which resulted his resignation from Congress. Both Murphy and Edwards were married at the time of the affair.
“Pittsburgh deserves an active and diligent voice in Washington. I will fight the tough battles that no one else chooses to fight,” Edwards said according to the Post-Gazette.
“I promise to be loyal to my constituents.”
Edwards has a doctoral degree in clinical forensic psychology and is aiming to challenge incumbent Congressman Mike Doyle (D-Allegheny) this year. With the redrawn map Edwards could end up facing against Republican Rick Saccone, who is running in the special election to replace Murphy in the special election

the first thing that comes up on google about psychologist ‘dr. shannon edwards’ is her affair which brought down US rep. tim murphy. (with that kind of free publicity her campaign won’t need to spend much on advertising.) since the negative publicity about her adultery has pretty much shattered lawyers’ confidence in hiring her as a n expert witness in western PA , she needs a new career. is this the best the GOP can do to challenge to longtime Dem stalwart Mike Doyle? may be Tim will give her the rest of his campaign war chest — he certainly has not dealt it out to fellow GOP candidates.
