6/8 Morning Buzz

A new name has emerged in the field of potential Republican challengers to Senator Bob Casey. Keith Loiselle – a Pittsburgh area businessman who made millions in the field of medical technology – is being recruited to run, Politico reports. The story also offers a look at some of the other potential GOP candidates and why they may have shied away from the race.

And speaking of Casey, the GOP has pulled out the (bipartisan) post-scandal political playbook on Anthony Weiner, and have begun to Democrats nationwide to return campaign contributions from the embattled Congressman. In PA, they’re taking aim at the Senator and Rep. Mark Critz, who each received $1,000 from Weiner.

In PA, no lawmaker is in hotter water than State Rep. John Galloway (D-Levittown). The lawmaker was busted for drinking and driving in Harrisburg and refused a breathalyzer test. He has apologized and is unlikely to face prison time, but the next step is unclear. His district is fairly reliably Democratic.

Finally, the PA Senate passed a bill yesterday that will block abortion coverage from health insurance policies set to become available via exchanges in the new health care law. In a move that immediately drew praise from pro-life groups – and fire from civil rights advocates – the law does not include cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is in danger.
