Boehner Headlines Fitzpatrick Fundraiser

While he was in the neighborhood House Speaker John Boehner decided to visit another PA Republicans. Last week, it emerged that the Speaker would attend a fundraising event for freshman Rep. Scott Perry (R-York). It turns out he also made time to raise some money for perennially targeted incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks).

On Monday evening, Rep. Fitzpatrick held a fundraiser at the home of Brian and Diane Dowd in Newtown with the Speaker as the special guest. A $1,000 donation to the Fitzpatrick campaign was required to attend the event, and a $2,500 donation got you access to the “VIP Roundtable” according to an invitation obtained by PoliticsPA.

The event is further proof that Rep. Fitzpatrick’s seat is a high priority for both parties in 2014. After Democratic candidate Kevin Strouse was named a “Jumpstart candidate” by the DCCC, the National Republican Campaign Committee responded by naming Fitzpatrick to it’s “Patriot Program” for vulnerable incumbents.

It shouldn’t be surprising, though, that Fitzpatrick is receiving help from his party’s leader. The Congressman has already received a combined $14,000 this cycle from the Speaker’s campaign and affiliated Political Action Committee.

According to FEC reports, the hosts of the fundraiser have given to candidates of both parties in the past. Brian Dowd, who works for The ACE Group, has given money to the campaigns of Democratic Senators Ben Nelson, Max Baucus, and the even the presidential campaign of Chris Dodd. He has also, however, given money to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s campaign.

Altogether, Mr. Dowd has given Rep. Fitzpatrick $3,650 to date and his wife Diane has contributed another $1,250.

There are currently two announced Democratic opponents in this race, Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran Strouse and businesswoman and scientist Shaughnessy Naughton.

  7. Wow – the Rep. party is so bereft of actual stars that drunken, teary-eyed Boehner is the best they can do? Fitzpatrick doesn’t have much political acumen, if he wants to be seen with the least effective Speaker in decades. Better than having Mittens Romney, I guess, like they had in NH last night. I’m betting that Boehner didn’t cause too many wallets to open wide!

  8. This campaign appearance and the one for Scott Perry in Harrisburg are more about Boehner’s efforts to be re-elected Speaker of the House than they are about the re-election of Fitzpatrick and Perry.

  9. I believe there are stats that show he has voted among the top-dozen of GOP-Congressmen who have deviated most-often from party-orthodoxy; this debunks the [typical] jab against him by D’s [vide supra].

His alignment with Boehner’s philosophy is probably c/w his overall desire to seek common ground [and not to compromise, noting this is a distinction WITH a difference], as he continues to manifest his honesty, integrity, intelligence, populism and good-humor.

He likes “No Labels” because it serves as a vehicle for administrative reform [led by David Walker, former Comptroller-General], as was highlighted this past Saturday during his Town Hall (@ Lower Bucks Campus of BCCC), another way to characterize his legislative approach.

  10. So much for the Fitzflopper trying to cast himself as independent of the Washington GOP
