Washington, D.C. – Representative Mike Kelly (PA-O3) honored his campaign pledge today to repeal the costly and job-destroying health care bill signed into law by President Obama last year. Known as Obamacare, the law will raise taxes on American taxpayers by over $500 billion and will increase the federal budget deficit by over $550 billion in the first ten years of the law.
 
“Today I voted to repeal a health care law that will weaken our economy and will cut jobs in a time when unemployment rates are at historic highs,” said Congressman Kelly. “We want to reform our health care system to make it more affordable and available, but we want to do it responsibly. Obamacare was rushed through Congress last year and signed into law before most lawmakers even read the 2000-page bill. The American people deserve better than that.”
 
Obamacare will increase health insurance premiums in the individual market by 10 to 13 percent more than without the new law, according to the Congressional Budget Office. In addition, the Obama Administration’s own Chief Actuary found that the federal government and the country will spend $310 billion more under Obamacare than we would have without the new law.
 
“Washington has a problem with runaway spending, and Obamacare is a prime example of what not to do,” continued Kelly. “Going forward, we will work on putting together common-sense solutions to reduce health care costs and make sure every American, regardless of preexisting conditions, has access to health care. But we are going to do it in a way that keeps the government out of the exam room and keeps a quality of care that Americans deserve.”
