Dems Jockey to Offer Counterpoint to Corbett Kickoff

Governor Corbett is in Pittsburgh this morning to announce his reelection bid, while the Democrats who hope to challenge him are angling to steal his spotlight today.

The governor will try to highlight the successes of his first term this week as he travels the state on an announcement tour, but he’s already being met with harsh criticisms.

“Governor Corbett knows Allyson Schwartz presents the strongest challenge to his reelection, which is why he is already resorting to false, misleading attacks against her. He doesn’t have a record of success to run on, so he has already turned to a negative campaign,” the Allyson Schwartz campaign released in a statement today. “During his kickoff tour this week, we expect more of the same from his campaign and the Pennsylvania GOP.”

Schwartz isn’t alone in attacking the governor this morning, McGinty’s campaign released a similar statement, and have taken their critiques to Twitter where her account has been using the hashtag “#PAVotersWontBeFooled.”

“There’s no way to cover it up: Tom Corbett has been a disaster for Pennsylvania. His policies have hurt millions of hard-working Pennsylvania families. Under Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania lags 46th in job growth. Our economy is stagnant. Our cities are decaying. Our children have been hurt by $1 billion in education cuts. Tuition increases have cut off college for too many. And Tom Corbett has disrespected the health privacy of women and insulted and demeaned same sex couples. It’s time for him to go,” McGinty said.

Corbett’s first term really took a hit in Tom Wolf’s release.
“Under Governor Corbett, Pennsylvania has sunk to 43rd in job growth while forcing our schools to lay off teachers and cut valuable programs and despite his best efforts to spin his record it is clear we need a new start for Pennsylvania,” Wolf said. “I will be a different kind of leader with the experience and fresh ideas to change Harrisburg, create middle class jobs and build a brighter future for Pennsylvania.”

John Hanger also released a statement outlining the reasons to fire Corbett.

“The truth is that Pennsylvanians are ready to fire Tom Corbett, but they don’t want to trade a failed Republican for a mediocre Democrat,” said Hanger. “That’s why my ‘People’s Campaign’ puts policy first and politics second. “We work hard every day to prevent big money from buying another election.”
