DNC Launches Rendell Robocalls Over Pileggi Plan
The DNC has launched robocalls against 10 GOP state Senators featuring former Gov. Ed Rendell. He urges listeners to call their state Senator to oppose a plan to change the way Pa. allocates its presidential vote.
“They’re trying to change the rules to rig the game for the Republicans because they lost fair and square in 2012. [Name of Senator] can stop this bill. The Republican Party is scheming to rig the next election because they can’t win on the issues,” Rendell says.
The plan introduced by Sen. Dominic Pileggi (D-Delaware) would allocate Pennsylvania’s electoral college votes proportionally instead of the current winner-take-all system.
PoliticsPA reported Saturday on the push by the DNC and other liberal groups to preempt the bill – which isn’t likely to become law in any case. Rendell, a former DNC Chairman, wrote an op-ed for the DNC last week.
PoliticsPA is seeking details on the size and scope of the calls, which were not yet released by the DNC. The calls were first reported by Tom Fitzgerald.
Sens. Pat Browne, Mike Brubaker, Jake Corman, Edwin Erickson, Stewart Greenleaf, Chuck McIlhinnery, Dominic Pileggi, Lloyd Smucker, Tommy Tomlinson and Donald White are the targets; they represent a mix of safe GOP seats and potential 2014 Democratic targets.
