PA-8: Santarsiero Endorsed by Three Unions

santarsieroSteve Santarsiero today announced a new trio of labor endorsements.

The State Rep. and Democratic candidate in PA-8, won the support of: Local 542 of the International Union of Operating Engineers; Region 9 of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; and Local 234 of the Transport Workers Union.

“We here in UAW Region 9 are so proud to support Steve in the 8th Congressional District,” said UAW, Region 9 Director Terry Dittes. “Steve has always stood up for working men and women and their families as a State Representative. He doesn’t just talk about supporting these families, he has cast votes in Harrisburg to enhance the way of life for families in Pennsylvania”

“I am confident that Steve will be even more successful in this role than he has been as State Representative given his dedicated support of local labor and our state’s working families,” wrote IUOE Business Manager Robert Heenan. “His support of organized labor and advocacy for pro-labor legislation has been felt statewide, as he has fought with us against attempts to restrict workers’ rights. We look forward to supporting Steve Santarsiero in the upcoming congressional race.”

“I’m proud of the team we are building in this race,” Santarsiero responded. “My father was the president of his local union when I was a kid and he taught me the importance of standing with working families. I’m honored to have organized labor and Democratic leaders standing with me in this campaign.”

Santarsiero unveiled a number of union supporters back in April as well.

The State Rep. is running against 2014 candidate Shaughnessy Naughton in the Democratic Primary. The 8th district consists of all of Bucks County and part of upper Montgomery County. Incumbent Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is retiring.

  1. And he has the overwhelming support of the rank and file, grassroots leaders of the Bucks County Democrats. He already has enough votes pledged right now from our committee women and men to secure an endorsement. Politicians and out of state, so-called power brokers who ignore the strongly held views of these grassroots leaders are going to learn a hard lesson. These are the workers, the people who knock the doors, make the calls, hold the coffee’s and teas and work the polls and in this cycle they will be heard.
