PA-Gov: Wolf Denounces Indiana Bill, Calls for New Legislation

lgbt-pa-flagGovernor Wolf is pushing for Pennsylvania to become a more inclusive place.

In the wake of the controversy over Indiana’s anti-LGBT legislation, Wolf is asking the legislature to adopt a non-discrimination law in PA.

“I simply don’t understand what the Governor of Indiana was thinking when he signed a bill that allows discrimination against people based on who they love,” Wolf wrote in an email to his campaign subscribers. “It’s not only wrong on a human level, but also ill-advised for attracting businesses and creating jobs in today’s global economy.”

“But we have some work to do here in Pennsylvania as well,” the Governor continued. “Unfortunately, Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeast that doesn’t prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and expression — and that needs to end.”

Citing William Penn, Gov. Wolf calls for a non-discrimination law that will prevent LGBT Pennsylvanians and their families from any prejudice from private businesses or institutions.

He then asks readers to sign a petition to the legislature for just such a law.

“With your help, we can show the world that Pennsylvania is the place William Penn envisioned: inclusive and open for all,” Wolf concludes.

  1. Our Gov was all upset when the Fl Gov came to Pa looking for industry to move there and accused him of meddling in Pa. Yet our Gov doesnt hesitate to “meddle” in Indiana. How about working on getting rid of property taxes……

  2. Joe – Who’s asking to have their behavior cheered on? You don’t really believe non-discrimination is a “cheer” do you? What about the religious freedom of those who choose not to follow the same religious credos as their employer? Isn’t that what brought many to this new land centuries ago – a desire to not have their religious freedoms imposed on by the beliefs of others who had political, social and financial power over them? How can you call yourself “American” Joe while calling for others to get in line with specific religious beliefs whether they share those beliefs or not?

  3. How about the leftist angle on this subject?! It’s not anti anybody legislation, it’s pro First Amendment rights to religious conscience and freedom. If the issue has come down to sexual behavior versus religious freedom, most Americans are going to choose religious freedom over someone else’s petulant demand to have their private behavior publicly cheered on, even by those who think it’s wrong.

  4. Governor Wolf, you should worry about defusing the ticking timebomb that is PSERS before you concern yourself with what’s going on in Indiana.

  5. It is sad that we need a law to protect a person’s rights to be who they are. Maybe this will be something our state gov can agree upon on all sides. Get moving PA and do something constructive for all.
