PAGOP Web Video Goes After Schwartz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLA_I-1np-E

The Pa. Republican Party accused gubernatorial hopeful Allyson Schwartz of working with President Obama and other Democrats to diminish Pennsylvania energy production.

The party released a web video extolling the virtues of coal and natural gas and portraying Allyson Schwartz as an Obama ally seeking to destroy those jobs.

“Now radical liberal Allyson Schwartz is calling for a massive tax increase on Pennsylvania natural gas,” says the female narrator of the video. “Which would put a dagger right in the heart of our natural gas industry and kill critical Pennsylvania jobs.”

The video cites Schwartz’s plan to apply a 5% extraction tax on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale in order to fund transportation and education programs. The video was produced by noted Republican consulting firm Brabender/Cox.

The YouTube video is paired with a plea to help fund the ad, suggesting the video is not presently backed by advertising spending.

“While it’s is our policy to not disclose the size and scope of any of our ad buys, we’ll definitely be working to get this ad and its message in front of as many Pennsylvanians as possible,” said PAGOP spokeswoman Valerie Caras.

Gov. Tom Corbett’s came out with its own statement hammering Rep. Schwartz within a few minutes of the video’s release.

“As the leading Democratic gubernatorial challenger, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz should come clean and disclose what other taxes and fees she plans to raise,” said Corbett Campaign Manager Mike Barley.

“The Congresswoman has a been a tireless supporter of the extreme, left-wing policies of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi and she should disclose her plans to bring the same broken tax-and-spend agenda that is failing Washington, D.C. to Pennsylvania.”

Boosting Schwartz?

While it may not seem like it from the video, the PAGOP is actually helping the Schwartz campaign by making her the focus of its attacks. By singling her out in this video as they have in other recent press statements, they are elevating her above her opponents.

Why? Because Republicans believe Schwartz would be their most favorable general election matchup with embattled incumbent Governor Corbett. Schwartz is a social liberal from the Philadelphia area; her thousands of votes in Congress are rich in election campaign fodder.

Schwartz’s campaign delightedly fired back at the GOP

“Governor Corbett took his foot out of his mouth just in time to resort to more false, negative attacks,” said Schwartz campaign Communications Director Mark Bergman.

“He knows he can’t run on his failed record and job killing policies so he and his allies have already resorted to attacking the strongest Democrat in the field. The truth is: Allyson’s commonsense plan, which is supported by an overwhelming majority of Pennsylvanians, would allow the Commonwealth to profit off its vast natural resources to make unprecedented investments in public education and transportation.”

A recent poll from Mercyhurst University found that 70% of Pa. residents who had heard of Marcellus shale support a drilling tax.

Other Democratic candidates for Governor include former DEP Secretaries John Hanger and Katie McGinty, State Treasurer Rob McCord, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, and former Secretary of Revenue Tom Wolf.

  1. Allyson Schwartz did fund raising from Islamists, Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood fronts, as reported by the highly reliable Investigative Project. http://www.investigativeproject.org/3792/dems-tap-radical-islamists-for-cash

Tom Corbett is on right track with Marcellus Shale and he can pound Allyson on her fundraising for Radical Islamists and Muslim Brotherhood fronts.
This will, in my view have an impact on the Jewish vote which, although liberal, has a limit and funding murderous anti-Semites is one of them. Allyson Schwartz will make the point she is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor but we have seen Jewish quislings who were silent when they needed to speak out. Her liberal credentials will be tainted by supporting anti Gay, anti Women, anti Semitic anti Israel, anti-American fanatics with lots of money and lots of guns and even nuclear weapons which Pakistanis already have and which Iran might soon acquire.

“Speaking to the attendees in her 10-minute address, she said the Democratic Party should become the natural home of Muslim-Americans, because Republicans fan the flames of “Islamophobia.” She focused exclusively on Islamophobia, a term devised by radical Islamists and their apologists to silence critics, while avoiding any mention of terrorism carried out by Islamists in the United States.

Also speaking were Israel, Ellison, Carson, and Reps Alyson Schwartz, D-Pa., and Chris Murphy, D-Conn. Israel and Murphy were said to have been the most vehement among the members of Congress in attendance in terms of their incendiary accusations of Republican-incited Islamophobia. One observer said that it was striking that “there was not a scintilla of comments in defense of U.S. national security.” However, they welcomed each of the Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood front groups represented at the event into the “Democratic community” without any mention of their well-documented terror links.”

This information may knock Allyson Schwartz out of Democratic primary but it won’t help Corbett’s numbers and it won’t work against Rob McCord or Tom Wolf or any other Democrat. McCord and Wolf are typical Jewish (by identification but not religiously) liberals and will appeal to the usual pseudo-intellectual liberals in the southeast with the mindless, politically correct jargon so fashionable in Lower Merion and elsewhere in southeast academia.
It should be noted that oil producing states see Marcellus Shale and American natural gas production as a threat and would fund Allyson Schwartz because she will curtail natural gas drilling in Pennsylvania through DEP, regulations and taxes. I would think that other Democrats like John Hangar might attract Saudi money. Saudis would be willing to fund a Jew for commercial reasons. The Oil Producing Saudis are not as anti-Zionist as the Radical Islamists whom they have to placate and appease.

Prince Alaweed bin Tal sells oil. Undercutting natural gas production in US would be helpful to his business.

“Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is worried. In fact, he’s so worried he voiced his concerns in a bold open letter to Saudi ministers and took out a full-page ad in the New York Times to spread the word.”

  2. Amazing, still, to see the Democrats desperately trying to block the only good thing to happen in, say, Beaver County in decades.

  3. Bob comes from the Rich White Man’s School of thought:

don’t tax me and give MY money to those black people! Roads? Who needs roads? Schools? Environment? Public Health? The free market will take care of that.

I have a question for Bob G… How much have your property taxes gone up in Ardmore the past couple of years because of Deadbeat Tom’s refusal to fund public education? If I’m a betting man, I’ll bet you that your taxes have gone up one way or another.

  4. @ Smarter on
Privately owned and publicly traded companies maid the materials for the roads, built the equipment needed to pave them, and build the vehicles which are used upon them. With regards to the example of bridges, the now defunct Bethlehem Steel built the Golden Gate Bridge with its Steel; the government didn’t own Bethlehem Steel, but Jimmy Carter’s gross tonage TAX did a good job at assassinating the entire steel industry to fund those roads, bridges, and schools. The steel industry was taxed to death by liberal-progressive statists. If your theories worked, the Soviet Union would still exist today as the greatest economic titan in human history.

  5. Bob, the “free stuff” you so blatantly vilify is keeping people from starving to death on the streets.

Why not just say you’re for suffering and misery? Oh I forgot – the GOP needs people like you to convince people that paying taxes is somehow anti-capitalist (which is just PLAIN wrong, as increased tax revenue actually increases the general economic state and thus consumers spend more, helping companies, which reinvest in the economy, etc.), and that the government is the big bad boogie man. Watch out for that government, guys, it is after your tax dollars so it can improve roads and keep bridges from falling down. I know, scary right?

The misinformation campaign does our society a grave disservice. But I’d expect nothing less from you, Bob, and I’m sure there’s plenty more on the way.

  6. With 70 percent of Pennsylvanians in favor of an extraction tax, this ad seems to indicate that the GOP is buying its own nonsense, which is kind of disturbing but mostly comical. It’d be like running an ad that says something like “Liberal Allyson Schwartz has fought to preserve Social Security and Medicare for future generations!” But if the PAGOP wants to keep putting up “attack” ads highlighting Democrats’ positions that are popular with the public then… so be it?

  7. The Democrats naturally and relentlessly want more taxes to spend more on free stuff and the anti-capitalist class warfare theme sells well.
Corbett is right that more taxes can only slow growth.

However, scare tactics, and The Forgotten Taxpayer should be scared of any Democrat, is insufficient to win an election. The base is not with the vague and uninspiring Tom Corbett. If he is the candidate, we will get a Democrat and more taxes.

The Democratic Governor Ed Rendell and the Republican General Assembly had created a $4.2 billion dollar budget deficit, which Corbett had to confront and did with help of very able Budget Secretary Zogby, and about $41 billion in unfunded state employees’ pension liabilities which Corbett and the Republican General Assembly has not confronted.

The pension liability has grown to $49 billion and will grow to $65 billion in five years. NO DEMOCRAT will confront unions and reduce that growing liability.
