Schwartz Announces Infrastructure Initiative

Allyson Schwartz announced her outline to revitalize infrastructure in Pennsylvania.

The plan, “Build PA,” would create a new public-private partnership to assist infrastructure and transportation projects across the Commonwealth.

The infrastructure bank is part of her gubernatorial platform and would be paid for by a new tax on Marcellus shale drilling.

“We can no longer ignore either Pennsylvania’s short-term transportation needs or the long-term infrastructure vision for our Commonwealth,” Schwartz told the American Council of Engineering Companies. “We need bold, new ideas for investing in infrastructure and transportation projects that will build economic success for decades.”

Pennsylvania is a leader of US states in unsafe bridges.

“Pennsylvania’s manufacturers, entrepreneurs, farmers and small business owners all require a first-rate transportation system. To move people and products, they rely on top-quality highways, bridges, mass transit, ports and rail facilities.”

Like her education plan and other policy proposals, Schwartz said she would rely on tax revenue from natural gas drilling.

Governor Corbett’s campaign criticized his rival’s initiative.

“It’s clear the only page in her playbook is to implement new excessive taxes and spend more money on increasing the size of government, an agenda already failing us in Washington, D.C.,” said Corbett campaign manager Mike Barley. “ Every one of Congresswoman Schwartz’s plans will be dependent on failed tax-and-spend policies that will kill jobs and increase the burden for Pennsylvania’s families and small businesses.”

Even though Schwartz is not the definitive Democratic nominee next year, the Corbett campaign is squarely focused on the suburban Philadelphia Congresswoman.

Tuesday, the state Republican Party released a video that criticized her stance on energy production – including her inclination to tax natural gas.

  1. So… what she’s really saying is that in spite of the Shuster family running transportation in Washington for the last 40 years, PA still doesn’t have roads and bridges that are up to par. Imagine that!

  2. Question: Is the Fair White Maiden in the PAGOP video ad a Virgin on an abstinence program? Oh, Chairman Gleason, PA’s number one RACE HUSTLER, keep our white women safe from the EVIL BLACK MAN! I sleep soundly at night knowing that you and Tom are keeping all the good WHITE FOLK safe.
