Santorum Endorses Corbett

Santorum Portrait Low_resTom Corbett has the backing of a former Senator and runner-up presidential primary candidate in his bid for re-election.

Rick Santorum announced that he “absolutely” plans to campaign for Corbett in 2014.

He declared his admiration for the governor at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference in Kansas City, Mo. last weekend.

“Tom’s been a strong governor. The state of Pennsylvania’s actually doing very well under his leadership. We haven’t seen any tax increases since he’s been there. You’ve seen economic growth better than the national average. You’ve seen unemployment rates lower than the national average. He’s been very, very effective in controlling spending and fostering economic growth.”

Santorum served Pa. in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2007.

A review by The Business Journals showed Pennsylvania has had relatively lackluster job growth since Corbett took office.

At the 2012 Republican National Convention, Rick Santorum finished second to Mitt Romney. He drew support from social conservatives, who questioned Romney’s commitment to Republican values.

Santorum dropped out of the GOP primary a few weeks before Pa. Republicans were set to vote. At least one poll had showed him trailing Romney in the Keystone State while others showed him losing ground. GOP scuttlebutt at the time indicated Corbett was preparing to back Romney.

The endorsement may help Corbett, who has taken some flak from the conservative wing of his party. Earlier this week, State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) nicknamed the governor “one term Tom” and denounced Corbett’s healthcare initiative.

  1. Dear Basile: Please don’t bring up cyber schools and the PA Cyber School Profiteering Mafia! These folks have great power with Acting Governor John Brabender. They represent a wonderful opportunity for political necrophilia: ads, strategic advisory services; well you get it. You don’t want to end up like former Secretary Harner and be constantly slurred as some insinuated Promiscuous Bi-sexual who can’t stay out of Men’s rooms stalls. Be very careful Basile. The wrath of Virginia’s horse country Acting Governor Brabender is fierce. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2013/09/termination_agreement_l

  2. Rick Santorum is a Pro Life Statist promoting Big Government spending, debt and deficit. Medicare Prescription D set the stage for Obama to socialize 1/6th of the economy.

Rick Santorum lost in 2006 for a reason getting 797,000 fewer votes in 2006 than 2000. Had he held his base, he would still be Senator.

Rick Santorum is deeply unpopular with Tea Party and with the principled grassroots activists. Team Corbett are blockheads.

  3. Tom Corbett now has John Brabender, Rick Santorum and Charlie Gerow.
Loser Loser Loser so do you think Tom Corbett can win? Brabender gets paid. Santorum pontificates and Charlie Gerow can promote himself to the media.

The Forgotten Taxpayer loses as Democrats move relentless toward more spending and higher taxes and bans on natural gas production.

  4. Acting Governor Brabender’s front man Tom Corbett is going to go on a Obamacare surrender tour reminiscent of Santorum’s 2005 State-wide tour supporting Bush’s privitzation of Social Security. In today’s Post Gazette, Jen Branstetter, Corbett’s director of policy says this new Medicaid plan is to help people get jobs (see link). Ms Branstetter did you get that sound bite from Brian Nutt? So the Brabender genius’s are morphing Health care reform into a jobs plan? I hope the press asks hard about all the conflicts the Corbett/Brabender administration has internally in formulating health care policy. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/state/corbett-stumping-for-medic

  5. I’m Penn State Proud too-just like Rick!!! CORRESPONDENCE FROM HAPPY VALLEY: Update from Penn State
In a recent editorial written by the Centre Daily Times — the independent newspaper serving Central Pennsylvania, including State College and the University community — the grueling past 20 months experienced by the University was again the focus.
As Penn Staters, we have read many opinions on what has and has not been done since November 2011. But this editorial is different. This editorial states the obvious about the extreme toll the Sandusky scandal has taken on our community and about the still difficult road ahead. Yet, this same editorial acknowledges the resiliency of our students, faculty and staff; the commitment to reforms; and the drive to overcome adversity that is now a defining characteristic of Penn State and Penn Staters everywhere.
Despite the fact that November 2011 will always be part of Penn State’s history we are urged by this editorial to never forget, but to keep moving forward in the face of challenges.

As always, University Relations hopes these communications provide timely and important information to you about Penn State. Thank you for being a part of our University.

  6. Wow: This is a shocker. How many Santorum kids have Acting Governor John Brabender as their Godparents? Isn’t it time to end the Brabender Oligarchy in PA? Acting Governor Brabender doesn’t even eat his own PA cooking. COS Gromis-Baker please resign and become ED and chief fund-raiser for the Corbett library in Virginia’s horse country. WOW: I’m sure this endorsement snapped Daryl Metcalffe and Bob Guzzardi into line!!

  7. No tax increases and an economy outperforming the nation? The pointlessness of this endorsement notwithstanding, I’m pretty sure that’s a lie. Unless he’s not smart enough to know better. Then it’s just wrong.

  8. Really…does Santorum still think we care what he says? Even as a Conservative, I could care less who Santorum endorses. Mr. Irrelevant!

  9. Thank God!

I was waiting for the Santorum endorsement to determine who I was voting for next year!

I’d rather be fishing with Ric!!!!!!!!!
