The special election for the 170th House District won’t be a three way race after all.
Seth Kaplan, who was considering mounting an independent campaign, announced today that he will stay out of the race.
“I wanted to take the time to inform you that I will not be filing petitions as an independent in the 170th race,” Kaplan said. “After significant polling, my entering the race would take away votes from the Democrat and likely cause the Republicans to win the race. For the sake of party unity I have decided to not file.”
The 170th seat was occupied by now-Congressman Brendan Boyle. Kaplan has been a top staffer for both Rep. Boyle and his brother, State Rep. Kevin Boyle.
The battle for the Democratic nomination pitted the Boyles against Lt. Governor Mike Stack, who was said to be favoring his close friend John Del Ricci. The party ultimately selected John’s wife, Sarah Del Ricci.
The Republican Party chose Martina White as their candidate.
The special election is scheduled for March 24th.
