Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa said this morning that Senate Democrats plan to appeal a new map of state House and Senate districts that moved a Democratic Senate seat from western Pennsylvania to the Poconos.
“We have concerns about the manner in which the process worked out and the way the maps were drawn,” Costa said in a brief interview this morning. The appeal is expected to be filed in state Supreme Court by week’s end. Oral arguments are set for Jan. 23.
The Allegheny County Democrat cast the only dissenting ballot in the 4-1 vote by a special commission to approve the new maps, which take effect this year.
