Helen Gym Earns Endorsement from Philly NOW

Helen-GymThe Philadelphia Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) has officially endorsed Democratic candidate Helen Gym for Philadelphia City Council.

“We are thrilled to endorse a candidate of such caliber,” said Nina Ahmad, Ph.D., President of Philadelphia NOW.

“We look forward to having a strong woman’s voice representing our interests in City Council; someone who is smart, principled and whose experience in fighting for public education, immigrant justice and civil rights will create a better tomorrow for all Philadelphians. Helen Gym will be a much needed breath of fresh air in Council.”

Helen Gym responded to the endorsement, saying, “Throughout my career I have worked to change narratives around marginalized groups of people who have had to fight for their identity and voice, and I am honored to have the endorsement of Philadelphia NOW, an organization that works tirelessly to promote equality and justice for women and minorities.”

Philadelphia NOW is the latest in a string of endorsements for Gym, which also includes State Rep. Brian Sims, Neighborhood Networks and the Working Families Party.

  1. Breath of fresh air??? The only thing that comes out of her mouth is foul language and lies. She has proven time and again to be no different than most politicians in this city.

How does a staunch opponent of Charter Schools explain being the founder of a Charter School (where her husband currently serves as chair of the board)? How does a tireless supporter of neighborhood schools explain carting her own kids all over town to get them into the best schools (regardless of neighborhood)?

  2. Wow…NOW! I do not even think they have as many members as letters in their name. If she is elected, forget more money going to Philadelphia Schools.

  3. @ disillusioned Philly Dem She’s already sunk she just doesn’t know it yet. The machine will do to her what they’ve done to Singer. The backroom has had their say.

  4. She got desperate and showed her true colors. Unfortunate mistake by a rookie. She has no 0% chance of ever getting elected to anything in Philadelphia County.
