Philadelphia City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson captured another influential labor endorsement for his primary against real estate developer Ori Feibush.
The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District Council 47 announced they are endorsing his candidacy.
“I know how hard DC 47 employees work because I see so many of them working throughout the city every day,” responded Johnson.
“That’s why it’s such a great honor to receive their support,” he continued. “My commitment to them is that I will never stop working to create more opportunity for working families in Philadelphia. I will continue to lead the charge to raise the minimum wage in city council. I will continue to fight to pass legislation to provide a tax credit to low income families to help them send their kids to high quality early learning programs. And I will keep fighting to make sure our schools have the resources they need to provide a world-class education.”
AFSCME DC 47 joins the list of unions that are backing the incumbent. Over the last few months, Councilman Johnson has also won the support of 32BJ SEIU, the Philadelphia AFL-CIO and the PGW Employees Union.
