“Over the next few months I will outline my views on the important issues facing our nation. I have respect for all the candidates who have so far announced their intentions to seek this office,” Morganelli said in a statement according to the Morning Call.
Morganelli has served as Northampton county’s DA since 1992. Morganelli has received criticism from Democrats for supporting Republican candidates, including appearing at an event with Senator Pat Toomey in the final weeks of his 2016 re-election campaign.
Morganelli has been considering a run for the seat since the fall following Dent’s announcement he would not be running for re-election next year.
Morganelli joins a crowded Democratic primary including Chip Collica, Allentown pastor Greg Edwards, Bill Leiner, Laura Quick, David Weidman, and former Allentown solicitor Susan Ellis Wild.
