Sources: Kelly Not Seeking Reelection as Allegheny Dems Chair

Eileen Kelly
Two sources are reporting that Eileen Kelly (pictured right), chair of the Allegheny County Democratic Party, will not seek reelection to the post at the group’s upcoming meeting. Both Chris Potter, politics/government editor for WESA-FM and Ryan Deto, reporter for TribLive tweeted that Kelly has told them of her decision. Squirrel Hill attorney Sam Hens-Greco, chair of the 14th Ward Democrats, remains the lone Democrat running for the top post. Morgan Overton, a Black woman who helps lead the Young Democrats of Allegheny County, would be vice chair. Letters of intent for those wishing to seek either position are due to the county committee no later than 4 p.m. on June 17. The Allegheny County Democratic Committee will hold a reorganization of leadership on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. If the Committee waits until that date to select a recognized chair, it may have less to say about picking a new state party chair to replace Nancy Patton Mills.
