Progressive Democrats narrowly avoided a tough spot Tuesday. Susan Wild worked her way to victory in the primary for the 7th Congressional district, defeating two other Democrats in the Lehigh Valley race.
Wild narrowly overcame Northampton District Attorney John Morganelli and Preacher Greg Edwards.
The seat is open following the retirement of Rep. Charlie Dent, a moderate Republican. It is a top tier Democratic target this fall.
Morganelli has long been a staunch supporter of tough immigration policies – he even tweeted warm words to President Donald Trump on the subject.
But liberal Democrats were torn on who to support instead. Wild, the former Allentown City Solicitor, was endorsed by groups like Emily’s List who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on direct mail and television ads in the final weeks of the campaign to help boost her run.
Edwards was endorsed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders among other progressives.
Wild will face either Dean Browning or Marty Nothstein in the general election; only a few hundred votes separated the two late Tuesday.

Just kidding, I don’t like women, so I will write me in
Congrats Susan, now you will face me as I run a write in campaign against you for the November’s General elections is to get me in to Congress, and for the 116th Congress needs more me like me in congress next year
Wild relied almost entirely on Emily’s List in this race and did very little for herself. She will get destroyed in the general.
Emily’s List is a trash organization and Wild will be just another Loss on their name.
