Twenty years after her first stint in Congress, Marjorie Margolies is using old networks to help win back her former district.
The Margolies campaign will host their second major DC fundraiser on Tuesday Sept. 24, at which 10 current members of congress and 23 former members of congress will be in attendance.
The list includes a number of members of the current Democratic leadership: Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, Nita Lowey, Henry Waxman, Maxine Waters, and Dutch Ruppersburger. Also coming out in support of Margolies is former head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign, Martin Frost, and former secretary of Defense and CIA Director, Leon Panetta.
Speaking out on this support, Margolies said, “In my brief time in Congress I was fortunate to work with some of the best and brightest; men and women who passed Family and Medical Leave, the Brady Bill, and the Clinton Budget. I am proud that these leaders are standing behind my campaign today.”
With the DC political establishment clearly on her side, as well as the money that presumably comes with it, Margolies can look to solidify her early lead. She already leads the race in terms of name recognition, and will hope to maintain this advantage once other candidates begin advertising in earnest.
It is worth noting that of all the members of Congress that will attend this fundraiser, only one- Ron Klink- was elected from PA. This reliance on DC insiders will likely be a point of contention for other candidates once the race begins to heat up.
Also running for the seat is state Rep. Brendan Boyle; state Senator Daylin Leach; and Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, a professor at the Penn School of Medicine. The seat will be vacated by Allyson Schwartz, who is running for Governor.

Great strategy! Tie yourself to the most do-thing congress in 50 years, including the Pelosi House – continuing the collapse of the middle class, the decline of working wages for all but the 1%, and the destruction of the public education system srtarted by Bush and accelerated by Obama. Just shows she is devoid of new ideas and leadership, and is planning on being just another Sheep if she gets to DC. Where has she BEEN for the last 20 years??
