The first shots have been fired between candidates vying for the Philadelphia mayoral seat.

In an interview with Philadelphia Magazine’s Citified published yesterday, former District Attorney Lynne Abraham spoke out against fellow Democratic candidate Ken Trujillo. Though she refused to mention Trujillo by name, she criticized his call to end the School Reform Commission.

“That’s ridiculous. It’s absurd,” she said in the interview. “That person really doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Trujillo, a former City Solicitor, fired back today with some criticism of his own. In an email sent to supporters, he quoted Abraham’s comments about President Barack Obama, comparing her to the likes of House Speaker John Boehner and Governor Tom Corbett.

“This is how Democratic candidate for Mayor, Lynne Abraham, described Barack Obama — the Commander-in-Chief who ended the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the President whose historic healthcare legislation allowed 150,000 Philadelphians to get insured,” the email from Trujillo’s campaign read. “Is this the kind of ‘Democrat’ you want to be your next mayor?”

In the email, Trujillo boasted his status as a member of Obama’s transition team on Securities and Exchange Committee reform, calling himself “a Democrat with the experience and the values to put all of Philadelphia first.”

Abraham and Trujillo join fellow candidates Judge Nelson Diaz, former Press Secretary Doug Oliver and State Senator Anthony Williams in the race for the Democratic nomination.
