7/23 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, here’s the buzz. Plans are in the works for a new ID card good for voting purposes only; Rasmussen puts Obama four points ahead of Romney in PA; three U.S. House races in the state made National Journal’s Top 75 list; and see who showed up on our radar last week in the Ups & Downs.

7/20 Ups & Downs: It’s been a busy week in Pennsylvania politics. See who did well, and who wishes they could take it back.

Department of State To Release Voter ID Card: Pennsylvania election officials are set to release a “Department of State voter ID card,” aimed at making it easier for those who have had difficulty obtaining proper ID in order to comply with the state’s Voter ID law.

Three PA House Races Among Top in U.S.: Three PA districts: the 12th, 8th and 6th, were included in a National Journal report listing the 75 House districts expected to be the most highly competitive in the country – meaning those that could experience a shift in partisan control come Election Day.

Rasmussen Reports: Obama 48, Romney 44 in PA: President Obama still has a lead over Mitt Romney, but that may be shrinking according to the latest poll by Rasmussen Reports.

American Crossroads Ad Uses Rendell, Won’t Air In PA: As speculation grows over Mitt Romney’s severance with Bain Capital, pro-Romney super PAC American Crossroads has released a new ad in 11 swing states attacking the President’s campaign tactics, with a little help from former Gov. Rendell. The twist? The ad won’t air in PA.

Legislative Election Updates:

HD-50: The PA Dems are finally taking a stand. The party filed suit to remove convicted former Rep. Bill DeWeese (D-Greene) from the ballot. DeWeese is currently serving 2.5 to 5 years on a variety of Bonusgate-related charges, but had insisted on his chances on appeal and remaining on the ballot.

HD-118: The Tea Party is coming! The Citizens Voice takes a look at Terrence O’Connor, the Republican challenging Rep. Mike Carroll (D-Luzerne), an avowed Tea Partier. His favorite tactic? Dressing up as Paul Revere. “I’m not doing any fundraising, just taking it to the streets,” he said. “I’m not looking for any money, just support and votes.”
