Reader Poll: Who Should Democrats nominate in PA-12?

pa12 dem slate

Not too long ago, Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district was considered safe Democratic territory. Legendary Congressman Jack Murtha represented the district for thirty-six years, and Rep. Mark Critz held onto the seat against all odds in the Republican wave of 2010.

That all changed, however, when the district was redrawn after the 2010 Census. In 2012, Keith Rothfus defeated Critz and became the first Republican to represent the 12th district since 1973.

Now two Democratic candidates are attempting to retake PA-12, Murtha’s long-time Chief of Staff John Hugya and businesswoman Erin McClelland. Recently McClelland, a first-time candidate, announced a number of local endorsements for her campaign. Hugya, meanwhile, appears to be banking on his long association with the parts of Murtha’s old district that still remain in PA-12.

So, we ask you dear readers, who do you think Democrats should nominate in Pennsylvania’s Twelfth District?

Who should Democrats nominate in PA-12?

  • Erin McClelland (61%)
  • John Hugya (28%)
  • Someone else (10%)

  1. Sorry you can’t win a conservative congressional seat based on social issues which is all the dems do because they are fiscal morons

  2. Erin McClelland is intelligent and motivated. She is a positive force for the 12th district and would be an asset in Washington. She has broken through gender barriers in the business world and will do the same in the Senate. She should join the ranks of the powerful women in the Senate and bring real change to the legislature.

  3. I have talked to Erin McClelland several times. She is brilliant and is the kind of person we should be sending to Washington. She has been working hard and has been all over the district.

    Has Hugya left Johnstown?

  4. How ironic that Keith moves his family into the district to run for Congress now one of the Dems has to do the same. Can’t those party bums find someone who actually lives in the district to run? We all have the Steelworkers to thank for Tea Party Keith, had they not run Jason Altmire out of the primary we wouldn’t be speculating on this at all.

  5. There are posters to this site yesterday and today that carelessly throw words around to appeal to the lowest common denominator that I suspect they do not really understand the true meaning. Often times I see outrageous commentary by media hacks repeated as original thought here or spoken on radio call-in shows.

  6. I have met Erin briefly and feel that she could perform will in the primary. I am all in and will encourage my friends in her area to vote for her.

  7. They are both turn-coat and traitorous scumbags in the waiting like Joe Manchin turned into. There are no Democrats who would dare break ranks with Barack O’Stalin. If SWPA is smart, they will re-elect Mr. Rothfus by a comfortable margin. These two will be rubber-stamps for Communist-In-Thief’s Stalinist agenda.

  8. Both candidates are first time candidates. Hugya is 79 or 80 years old. Does he have the stamina to go the distance?
