PA-Sen: Q2: McGinty Pulls In $2.9 Million

Katie_McGintyThe latest round of fundraising numbers are in.

According to Laura Olson of Morning Call, Senate Democratic nominee Katie McGinty raised $2.9 million in the second quarter of 2016.

That is more than her previous two fundraising hauls combined.

“Katie’s impressive fundraising quarter is a clear sign of the strong support she has all across the Commonwealth,” McGinty Campaign Spokesman Sean Coit stated. “After six years of Pat Toomey pushing Wall Street’s agenda, Pennsylvanians are ready to elect a real champion for the middle class and send Toomey packing this November.”

Nonetheless, McGinty still trails Senator Pat Toomey who brought in $3.1 million.

While the numbers for the amount spent and the cash on hand for both campaigns have yet to be released (they are due by Friday), Toomey will probably still have a significant advantage over his challenger.

After the first quarter deadline, Toomey had over $9 million in COH compared to less than $1 million for McGinty.

McGinty, though, still has the upper hand in some areas. A Democratic Super PAC has reserved $9 million in ad time on her behalf which is $3 million more than a competing Republican Super PAC was able to do for Toomey.

The second fundraising quarter ran from April 1st, 2016 to June 30th, 2016.

  3. Sad state of affairs in America that campaign money determines the viability of a candidate. Yes, I understand the need to become known. But what happened to the duty of voters to find out what candidates stand for?

  4. Katie is a weak candidate. Toomey will win this because of the Washington cartel. It might keep the Dems from winning back control of the senate.

  5. Momentum has definitely begun to shift to McGinty in this close race.

Democrats are unifying. Sanders endorsed Clinton today. It’s not just money in this race that may be a factor. My guess is that Obama and Biden who are both popular here will both campaign for McGinty. That’s huge. Toomey doesn’t have anyone in his own party who can help him. At the end of the day Dem turnout should be large enough in Philly and the burbs to take Toomey down. Remember a Democratic majority is at stake… aka SCOTUS!

Let’s make sure we send Katie McGinty to Washington as our next Senator!

  6. McGinty “trails” Senator Pat Toomey in both fund raising as well as momentum. The totally unnecessary debacle over the claim to be the “first one to go to college” in her family only to be followed up by leading media star Andrea Mitchell saying McGinty is a weak candidate for Senate has gotten McGinty off to a struggling start. All these millions in campaign money raised on both sides will negate each other and this will be a tough campaign for McGinty running against the savy Toomey campaign.

  7. Once you have enough money to get your message out, the additional money really doesn’t make much difference. You don’t need any money for GOTV, because turnout among active voters will be over 80%, due to the presidential campaign. So, the money really all goes to message and persuasion.

Katie (or rather a supporting PAC) has a very effective/powerful ad from a woman whose cancer was detected thanks to Planned Parenthood, and she trashed Toomey for wanting to defund it. They should put a lot of money into running that ad, and more like it.
